From Tree to Bed

We often forget what wood really is.

Not just a material, but a living organism.

This bed starts with an ash from Rotterdam.
Once rooted in the city, later uprooted by a storm.
Through Buurman, the tree got a second life — not as waste,

but as a basis for something new.

For me, this work begins with the material itself.
With where it comes from and what it has already been through.

I designed and handmade the Sleeping Beauty Bed.
In this piece, material, origin, and the making process come together.

The bed is constructed entirely without glue and uses traditional mortise and tenon joints.
As a result, the structure remains demountable and honest.
Every connection is visible, every choice made consciously.

The wood is finished with natural oils and waxes,
so that it remains protected and feels natural.

What was once a tree in the city is now becoming a place of tranquility.

For me, this bed is about slowing down.
Pause for a moment.
And take another look at what we make and use.
